Gallo goes oppo in Toronto with 8th home run
First-inning two-run shot helps lead Rangers to victory over Blue Jays
TORONTO -- Joey Gallo extended the Rangers' early lead on Friday in Texas' 6-4 win over the Blue Jays with a first-inning rocket to the opposite field for his eighth home run of the season.
Gallo got all of the sinking fastball from Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman. With an exit velocity of 110.3 mph, it represents just the second time that Gallo has topped 110 mph on an opposite-field home run since Statcast™ started measuring in 2015.
His only other opposite-field homer to top that plateau came just five days ago on April 22.
"Our guys went out early and put up some runs on the board with [Nomar] Mazara and Gallo," manager Jeff Banister said after the win. "That home run from Gallo, four runs early."
Gallo stepped to the plate in the first inning with the Rangers already up 2-0 after a two-run single from Mazara, who came around to score on the home run, which made it 4-0.
