Adolis' clutch effort wins Electric Play of the Week
The look on Mariners rookie Julio Rodríguez's face said it all. With both hands on his hips after rounding first, J-Rod could only offer a blank smile as Adolis García made a sensational catch last week, which earned the Rangers outfielder the Electric Play of the Week Award presented by Chevrolet on Monday.
With Texas on the verge of ending a five-game slide, García did everything in his power in the ninth inning of Thursday's 8-6 win over the Mariners to make it happen. He hustled home from first to score the go-ahead run in the top half, and with one out in the bottom of the ninth, he robbed Rodríguez of extra bases with an all-out diving catch of a 108.8 mph sinking liner that had a 69% hit probability, according to Statcast.
“It feels like this gives us a lot of confidence as a team,” García said through an interpreter. “I think this is a really good steppingstone.”
