Kirby Kali Yates…older brother, Tyler, was a 23rd-round selection by Oakland in the 1998 MLB Draft and went on to pitch parts of five Major League seasons with New York-NL (2004), Atlanta (2006-07), and Pittsburgh (2008-09)…Kirby and his wife, Ashlee, have a daughter, Oaklee Malia, and a son, Kove Kali…Kirby’s nickname is ‘Chubbs Senior’, a reference to his pet bulldog named Chubbs…shortly after giving birth to Kove in July of 2018, Ashlee experienced a seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy soon after...during Kirby’s time with the San Diego Padres, the couple partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County to host an Epilepsy Awareness Night at Petco Park on 9/10/19...Kirby and Ashlee that year also established “Comedy For A Cause,” an epilepsy benefit held at The American Comedy Co. in the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego.

Made his return to the field on July 22 after recovering from Tommy John Surgery, pitching a scoreless frame for Double-A Mississippi...Pitched another scoreless frame for Mississippi before continuing his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett...With the Stripers, appeared in five games, threw 5.1 innings and gave up only one run...Struck out four and walked two...Made his Atlanta debut on Aug. 10 at Boston, tossing a scoreless 0.1 of an inning...Overall, pitched in nine big league games in 2022 and gave up four earned runs across 7.0 innings (5.14 ERA)...Placed on the 15-day Injured List on Sept. 13 with right elbow inflammation, ending his season.

Signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in January, and was placed on the 60-day injured list with right elbow surgery March 29…Did not pitch during the season...Underwent Tommy John surgery March 24, his second such procedure…He also had the surgery in 2006.
