2005

The hardest thrower in the Mets' Spring Training camp in 2004 underwent rotator cuff surgery in February 2005 and missed the entire season. His age (28), his shoulder, his inexperience (46 2/3 innings in the big leagues) and his control (25 walks) make Yates' future cloudy at best. He already had undergone Tommy John surgery in 2002. He retained his velocity through that procedure, but nobody knows what to expect after a second major operation.

2004

Made his major league debut on April 9th vs. Montreal at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico...Started and worked 6.0 innings, permitting five hits, no runs, with no walks and four strikeouts in a no-decision...The Mets won the contest, 3-2, in 11 innings...Earned his first major league victory in a 4-1 triumph over the Expos at Shea on April 19th...Surrendered one run in 5.2 innings...Was the first Hawaiian-born Met to post a victory since Sid Fernandez defeated Florida, 7-1, on October 2, 1993 in Miami... Spent Spring Training recuperating from "Tommy John" surgery which was performed on his right elbow on June 19th, 2002...The surgery was performed by Dr. Andrew Rokito at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and NYU Medical Center...Began his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment with the Mets' St. Lucie (A) team of the Florida STate League on April 3rd...Threw 1.0 scoreless inning of relief vs. Brevard...Optioned to St. Lucie on April 5th...Threw 5.0 innings twice for St. Lucie, against Palm Beach in the first game of a May 28th doubleheader and again vs. Vero Beach on June 12th...Promoted to Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern Leaugue on June 17th...Started seven games at Double-A...Went 5.0 innings sicx times and 5.2 innings in teh second game of a June 22nd doubleheader vs. Erie...Struck out 36 batters in 39.1 innings in his stay in Binghamton...Promoted to Norfolk (AAA) of the International League on August 1st...Had four starts at Norfolk including six shutout innings with five hits vs. Charleston on August 6th...Placed on the Disabled List on August 20th, retroactive to August 18th, with a broken pinky.

2002

Began season with Norfolk...Was recalled by New York on 4/16 but did not appear in a game before being optioned back to the Tides one day later...Was placed on the disabled list on 6/11 with a right elbow strain...Underwent "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow on 6/19 and missed remainder of the season.

2001

Ranked fourth in the Texas League in saves, third in games and fourth in games finished (35) with Midland (Athletics' AA)...Received a late season promotion to Triple-A Tacoma and did not allow a run in four appearances.

2000

Split season between Modesto (Athletics' A) and Midland...Combined to go 5- 3 with a 3.90 ERA in 52 relief appearances.

2001

Spent entire season with Single-A Visalia and led club in appearances.

1998

Began professional career with Arizona League Athletics after being selected by Oakland in June draft...Also made two relief appearances with Single-A South Oregon.
