Gavin is in his second season in the Cubs organization after being claimed off waivers from Arizona on Aug. 23, 2024...Spent the first five seasons of his career with Colorado, but was claimed off waivers by Arizona on June 18, 2024...Saw his most extensive Major League action in 2023 (26 games) but made his Major League debut Sept. 19, 2022 vs. San Francisco (2 ER/1.0 IP)...Was selected by the Rockies in the sixth round of the 2019 draft...Attended St. John’s University (N.Y.) from 2017-19...Was named All-Big East First Team in 2019 and Second Team All-Big East as a sophomore in 2018...Is a 2016 graduate of Montgomery High School in Skillman, N.J., where he led Montgomery to a county championship as a senior.

2024

Gavin spent time in three organizations in 2024, beginning the season with the Rockies, before joining the Diamondbacks and Cubs...Pitched in 33 Minor League games, all in relief, for the Rookie Level ACL Rockies, Triple-A Albuquerque, Triple-A Reno and Triple-A Iowa, going a combined 2-2 with a 4.64 ERA (17 ER/33.0 IP)...Began the season with Albuquerque, but was on the injured list from April 13-June 11 with a right elbow injury...Was claimed off waivers by Arizona from Colorado on June 18 and reported to Reno...Made eight straight scoreless appearances from June 21-July 12 (7.2 IP) to begin his stint with the Aces...Was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from Arizona on Aug. 23...From Aug. 14-Sept. 12, he made seven straight scoreless appearances (8.1 IP), two with Reno and five with Iowa...Was recalled by the Cubs on Sept. 23 and made his Cubs debut that night in Philadelphia, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.

Logged 26 relief appearances in his second Major League season with the Rockies...Went 2-0 with a 5.88 ERA over 33.2 innings of work (22 ER) with the Rockies…served three stints on the active roster: June 17-20, June 28-July 29 and Aug. 29-end of season...Earned his first career win on July 16 vs. New York-AL…took the 11th inning and allowed two runs (one earned) with one walk and one strikeout in an 8-7 Rockies’ win...Earned his first career save after pitching a career-high 2.2 innings in game one on Sept. 16 vs. San Francisco...Used 48 pitches in the outing, becoming the eighth Rockie in franchise history to record a save with 48 or more pitches, the first since José Acevedo on Sept. 2, 2005 vs. Los Angeles-NL (56 pitches)...Posted a 3.47 ERA (23.1 IP, 9 ER) with 10 walks and 27 strikeouts through 19 games with Triple-A Albuquerque…on the Isotopes injured list April 1-May 16 (right elbow inflammation).

Made his Major League debut for the Rockies on Sept. 19 vs. San Francisco after having his contract selected from Double-A Hartford on Sept. 18...Appeared in six games for the Rockies, going 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA (7.0 IP, 6 ER) with four walks and eight strikeouts...Made his Major League debut on Sept. 19 vs. San Francisco, the eighth Rockie to make his debut in 2022 at the time, third pitcher...took the loss after allowing a three-run home run to Thairo Estrada, the first reliever in club history to get the loss in their ML debut...Tossed a perfect inning on Sept. 27 at San Francisco, recording one strikeout...was also scoreless in his second career outing on Sept. 21 vs. SF at Coors Field (0.2 IP, H, SO)...finished the season tossing 1.2 scoreless frames against the Dodgers on Oct. 5...Made 42 relief appearances with Double-A Hartford, going 4-2 with a 3.14 ERA (48.2 IP, 17 ER), 64 strikeouts and 14 walks...finished second in the Eastern League, third in all of Double-A, with 16 saves in 18 opportunities.

2021

Made 24 total relief appearances with the Arizona Complex League Rockies and Low-A Fresno, going 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA (24.0 IP, 6 ER), seven walks and 33 strikeouts...Began his season with the ACL Rockies and made two appearances on June 29 and July 2 before being promoted to Fresno...Went 2-0 with four saves and a 2.45 ERA (22.0 IP, 6 ER) in 22 appearances with Fresno...Allowed just two runs on 11 hits, including no home runs across his first 21 appearances with Fresno (0.86 ERA) before surrendering four runs on four hits, including one home run, in his last regular season appearance on Sept. 19.

Made his professional debut with Rookie Level Grand Junction, going 3-0 with seven saves and a 2.89 ERA (18.2 IP, 6 ER) in 17 appearances...His seven saves tied for the most in the Pioneer League.
