William Bergolla and Max Lazar earn organizational honors for the month of June

Jersey Shore infielder William Bergolla and Lehigh Valley right-handed pitcher Max Lazar have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June.

Bergolla, 19, slashed .421/.507/.596 (1.103 OPS), going 24-for-57 with five doubles, one triple, one home run, 12 RBI, 11 walks, five stolen bases, nine runs scored and a 4.2 percent strikeout rate (3-72) in 19 games for high-A Jersey Shore during the month. Among all high-A batters with 70 or more plate appearances, the left-handed hitter ranked first in batting average, on-base percentage and strikeout rate, second in OPS and eighth in slugging percentage. Ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the Phillies farm system by MLB.com, Bergolla recorded a career-high five hits on June 9 at Greensboro. The Venezuela native signed with the Phillies as an amateur free agent on Jan. 15, 2022, and was signed by Rafael Álvarez and William Mota.

The 25-year-old Lazar went 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA (12.1 IP), 14 strikeouts, two walks, six saves, a .098 opponent’s batting average (4-41) and a 0.49 WHIP in 11 relief appearances for the IronPigs in June. Among all relievers in the International League to throw at least 10.0 innings, the 6-foot-2, 198-pound right-hander ranked first in WHIP, tied for first in ERA and saves and fourth in opponent’s batting average. The Coral Springs, Fla., native began the year with double-A Reading and was promoted to triple-A Lehigh Valley on May 8. Across 25 outings with both teams this season, he has a 0.30 ERA (ER, 29.2 IP) with 39 strikeouts, four walks and 11 saves. Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Lazar signed with the Phillies as a minor league free agent on Dec. 8, 2023.
