Phils' spring home renamed Spectrum Field
PHILADELPHIA -- The Spectrum is back.
The Phillies and Charter Communications announced Monday that Bright House Field -- which has been the Spring Training home for the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla., since 2004 -- has been renamed Spectrum Field.
The naming rights are effective through 2020.
One of Philadelphia sports' most iconic venues, the Spectrum stood in South Philadelphia for 44 years before it was demolished in 2011. It had been the home of the 76ers and Flyers and hosted numerous other events, like the NCAA men's basketball tournament and countless concerts.
"Charter Communications has a great reputation for being an active supporter of community engagement so to have our facility associated with their brand is an honor," Phillies director of Florida operations and general manager of the Clearwater Threshers John Timberlake said in a statement. "We look forward to partnering with them beyond just this naming rights opportunity in the years ahead."
The name change means it is likely Harry Kalas' prerecorded greeting will be replaced. Kalas' voice had welcomed Phillies fans to the ballpark as gates opened before every game with: Welcome to beautiful Bright House Field.
