The ballpark-wide Go Gold event included heartwarming moments and once-in-a-lifetime experiences families affected by cancer. Participants included those who are receiving treatment from Nemours Children’s and other hospitals, as well as those affiliated with the Kisses for Kyle Foundation, which assists families in the Delaware Valley region who are battling childhood cancer with a variety of programs, services and special events.

Some moments included a pregame Lineup of Courage, a ceremonial “home run,” an honorary base change, singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and more. There was also a giant Go Gold ribbon held in center field by family members whose children lost their battle to cancer, along with members of the Phillies front office and Nemours Children’s Health.

Also participating were Christie and Chris Phelan, who started the Corey’s Promise foundation after losing their son Corey, a Phillies minor league pitcher, to cancer last October at the age of 20. The Phelan family watched the game from a suite donated by Phillies shortstop Trea Turner, a long-time supporter of the V Foundation for cancer research.

Fans were given Stand Up to Cancer placards when they entered the ballpark and were invited to hold them up in the middle of the seventh inning to show support for those who have been affected by cancer.
