Bring the playground home! King Swings donates Phillies-themed playset to Strawberry Mansion Learning Center
The Phillies and King Swings, an Amish, family-owned company based in Chester County who designs swing sets for Phillies fans as well as celebrities, made a special visit to North Philadelphia yesterday, where they gifted a Phillies-themed playset to Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, which provides free after-school and summer programming for children grades 5-12.
The event was attended by the Strawberry Mansion community, who cheered as the Center’s children had the honor of being the first to try out the new playset. Participants included broadcaster Tom McCarthy, as well as King Swings’ CEO Elmer King, who praised the Center’s founder and director, Kevin Upshur, and his mission to help the neighborhood.
Joining the festivities and making a surprise appearance were the Phillie Phanatic, Phillies Ballgirls, and 1993 National League champion and 2008 World Series champion coach Milt Thompson, who joined Upshur and King for a ribbon cutting to officially open the playset to the community.
