1B Spencer Horwitz
Injury: Right wrist
Expected return: March-April
Status: Horwitz had a procedure on his right wrist in early February to address a chronic issue. The Pirates anticipate he will need six to eight weeks to recover, and playing Spring Training games is still an attainable goal. He was seen fielding ground balls and has started hitting with his top hand. (updated Feb. 19)

Injury: UCL surgery
IL date: Feb. 16 (60-day IL)
Expected return: Midseason
Status: General manager Ben Cherington said Moreta is where he should be in his rehab, but he will not face hitters in Spring Training. At this point in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Moreta is throwing side sessions. (updated Feb. 19)

Injury: UCL surgery
Expected return: Early season
Status: Oviedo is not quite full go yet in Spring Training, according to senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk, but he's throwing live batting practices and has no restrictions to which pitches he can throw. (updated Feb. 19)
