The Major League Baseball Umpire Camps are a non-profit entity providing world-class free umpire training with opportunities for attendees to start their journey toward becoming Major League Umpires by being selected for the 28-day, all-expenses paid MLB Umpire Prospect Development Camp, which serves as the training ground for entrance into professional baseball. This camp takes place at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla. Our staff from the MLB Umpiring Department has over 500 years of combined experience. The MLB Umpire Camps also assists umpires in furthering the advancement of their college, high school and Little League umpire careers for those not looking to move into the professional ranks.
MLBUC offers attendees the opportunity to improve all facets of their work -- e.g., plate work, base work and positioning, rules interpretations, situation management and Mechanics for the Two-Umpire System, the system worked in the lower Minor Leagues. MLBUC also features "Tips from the Athletic Trainer" to improve your physical well-being and prolong your career, nutritional counseling and safety presentations.
Umpire Camps FAQ
Do I need to have any umpiring experience to attend a free one-day clinic?
Absolutely not! We encourage participants of all umpiring levels to attend our free one-day clinics. Whether it's your first day on the field or you have been ringing batters up for 30 years, you are bound to learn something new from our incredible staff.
What if it is raining?
Our MLBUC Clinics will always proceed rain or shine!
What should I wear?
Please wear appropriate clothes for doing umpiring drills. We find that most participants are the most comfortable in athletic attire or your base gear. If you have plate gear, certainly bring that along as we get all umpires in the cages to call balls and strikes. Flat-bottom shoes only; No cleats please!
Will I have to sign anything to participate?
All participants must sign a standard liability waiver upon arrival. If you are under 18, please note that you will need a parent or legal guardian to co-sign.
Is pre-registration required?
If you want to stay ahead of the game, you can always register ahead of time. But if you have a friend who wants to join last minute, no worries. We always accept walk-ups on the day of the clinic!
