Rojas day to day with right shoulder strain
LOS ANGELES -- Miguel Rojas was out of the lineup on Sunday for the Marlins’ series finale at Dodger Stadium. Rojas exited in the fifth inning of Saturday night’s 10-6 loss to the Dodgers with a right shoulder strain. He is considered day to day.
Manager Don Mattingly was optimistic that the injury wouldn’t be a long-term issue for Rojas.
“He’s all right today,” Mattingly said Sunday. “We’re just giving him a day to let this thing settle down. I think he’ll be fine. We’ll see how it goes.”
Rojas was available off the bench. In the sixth inning, he pinch-hit in the pitcher’s spot and singled.
Rojas injured himself in Friday’s game in the second inning, when he dove to his left to grab a ball. After throwing to first for the out, Rojas was shaking his right arm and grabbing at the shoulder while heading to the dugout.
In the first inning Saturday, Rojas swung awkwardly at a 3-2 slider, losing his balance and breaking his fall with his left hand, then shaking his right arm as he left the field. He also fouled a ball off his left leg in the fourth inning. Yadiel Rivera took over for him at shortstop.
“Hopefully, I take a day, see how I feel tomorrow and go from there,” said Rojas on Saturday.
Rojas is batting .281/.337/.352 with one homer this season while serving as the Marlins’ primary shortstop.
