Jazz Chisholm Jr. underwent surgery to repair turf toe in his right foot on Tuesday, with the Marlins' center fielder posting a photo with the caption "Surgery was successful" on his Instagram story.

A source told MLB.com on Monday that the procedure will sideline Chisholm for 12 weeks before he can return to wearing a shoe and running again.

Chisholm injured the toe on the cement block of the left-center-field wall at loanDepot park on May 13 while trying to make an inning-ending catch. Initial X-rays came back negative, and the club called it a right foot contusion. But the first doctor Chisholm saw told him he might need surgery, while another specialist said he could treat it and return within four weeks.

The 25-year-old Chisholm, who spent time in a walking boot, elected the second option. He completed a four-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville before rejoining the Marlins on June 27 in Boston. Chisholm would land on the injured list again with a left oblique strain on July 3.

In 97 games this season, Chisholm hit .250/.304/.457 with a 103 OPS+. Despite the missed time, he was just one homer shy of the Marlins' first 20/20 season since Hanley Ramirez in 2010.

This will mark the second straight offseason spent rehabbing for Chisholm. The 2022 All-Star, who was limited to just 60 games that year with a right lower back strain, underwent right knee meniscus surgery last September. According to Chisholm, he sustained the injury during that year's Spring Training and played through it.
