Marlins name Brian Chase their VP of baseball systems
The Marlins made a front-office addition just before the holidays, naming Brian Chase their vice president of baseball systems on Thursday.
Chase will lead the Marlins’ baseball systems department, which includes data engineering, machine learning engineering, software engineering and software development. This group will drive the technical infrastructure development to support research and development as well as baseball operations.
For the past three years, Chase held the role of director of engineering at FanDuel. He led FanDuel’s strategy for retail sports betting business and oversaw all technical and operational capabilities across their U.S. retail locations as the strategic head of technology. Chase also managed contractors and engineers focused on hardware and datacenter procurement, software design, architecture and engineering.
Chase’s experience includes his role as director of engineering for baseball data at Major League Baseball from 2019-21. He was a managerial and technical leader for baseball data, statistics and products, and he also worked as a principal software engineer and engineered testing tools for MLB products that included Rally, StatsAPI and Statcast.
Chase holds a Master of Business Administration, Entertainment, Media & Technology and Business Analytics from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
