Sam Geaney began his career with the Giants in 2022 after having spent the previous seven years with the San Diego Padres (2014-21), leading the organization’s player development department. Geaney was named as Director of Player Development on October 20, 2014 and later promoted to Senior Director following the 2018 season. Geaney was tasked with overseeing several top Padres prospects such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Chris Paddack, Ryan Weathers and Dinelson Lamet.
Prior to joining San Diego, Geaney spent the previous nine seasons (2006-14) with the Oakland Athletics and the last three as the club’s Coordinator of International Scouting.
Geaney began his career in baseball as an intern for the Athletics’ baseball operations department in 2006 before joining the staff full-time in 2007 as an assistant in the scouting department as well as serving as an area scout for Northern California. After being promoted to coordinator of scouting with the A’s, he was named the club’s Coordinator of International Scouting in January of 2012.
Geaney graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007 with a degree in Political Science.
