Michael Holmes was promoted to his current position of Senior Director, Amateur Scouting in 2022. He most recently held the title of Assistant Scouting Director for the Oakland Athletics. While with the A’s, Holmes and Farhan Zaidi worked together for 10 years.
Holmes began his professional baseball career in 1997, when he was selected by the A’s in the 18th round of the draft out of Wake Forest. With the Demon Deacons, Holmes was a four-year standout from 1994-97 and was named the team’s MVP in 1996. After spending four seasons pitching in the lower levels of the A’s system, Holmes joined the Wake Forest coaching staff in January, 2001. In addition to coaching at Wake Forest, Holmes spent his summer in 2001 as a Pitching Coach for Brewster in the Cape Cod League.
Holmes started his career as the A’s Area Scout in the Carolinas and later served as the A’s East Coast Cross-Checker before being named Assistant Scouting Director, a position he held since 2009.
