Joe Salermo is currently serving as the Senior Director of International Scouting, a position he was promoted to in 2022. In his role he oversees the scouting and acquisition of International amateur players as well as Cuban amateur and professional players, while also providing coverage with Asian professional baseball leagues and International professional winter leagues.
Salermo’s first year as a scout was with the Mets in 1997, working as an associate scout before becoming the South Florida Area Supervisor with the Mets in 1999. Salermo later won the South Florida Scout of the Year award (2007). He first came to the Giants in 2009 as the Latin American Crosschecker, than became International Crosschecker in 2013, and finally in 2015 became Director of International Scouting.
He was born in Manzanillo, Cuba and came to the United States with his family when he was 10 years old. Salermo played baseball at Monmouth University in New Jersey, and graduated from Kean University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He now makes his home in Hallandale Beach, FL.
