SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants announced Friday that they've signed switch-pitcher Pat Venditte to a one-year Major League contract, giving them a unique weapon to use out of their bullpen as they look to exploit more platoon advantages under new president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi.
Venditte, 33, who is capable of pitching from both the right and left side, posted a 2.57 ERA over 14 innings in 15 appearances for the Dodgers this past season. He spent the bulk of the 2018 campaign in Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he recorded a 1.75 ERA over 51 1/3 innings.
In San Francisco, Venditte will be reunited with Zaidi, who previously served as the Dodgers' general manager.
Venditte has made 56 career appearances in the Majors across stints with the A's, Mariners, Blue Jays and Dodgers, facing 143 batters as a right-handed pitcher and 135 as a left-hander. He must declare which arm he plans to throw with prior to each plate appearance.
With the addition of Venditte, the Giants' 40-man roster now stands at 38.
