Aug: 21: OF James Tibbs III (Giants No. 3 prospect and No. 98 overall) promoted to High-A Eugene
From the moment Tibbs put pen to paper and joined the Giants' organization, he’s seemingly done nothing but hit. The 13th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft is moving up a level after delivering seven consecutive multihit performances for Single-A San Jose, including four doubles and two RBIs in that span.

The 21-year-old is picking up where he left off after slashing .363/.488/.777 this season for Florida State en route to earning ACC Player of the Year honors. Tibbs debuted on the Top 100 Prospects list as soon as he was eligible and is set to join High-A Eugene for the stretch run of the season.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

C (right oblique strain)
Expected return: Late August
Bailey was scratched before San Francisco's Aug. 19 game after tweaking his side swinging. He described the soreness as “very, very minor” and said the scratch was precautionary, but the Giants had him undergo an MRI exam the next day, which revealed a right oblique strain. Bailey's placement on the 10-day injured list is retroactive to Aug. 19, meaning he'll be eligible to return on Aug. 29.

The second-year backstop hit .283 with a .784 OPS in the first half, but he slumped badly after the All-Star break, batting only .115 with a .292 OPS over 27 games. (Last updated: Aug. 20)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Possibly September
Rodríguez, 24, logged a 3.93 ERA over 33 Major League appearances before landing on the 15-day IL (retroactive to Aug. 14) prior to the Giants' series finale against the Braves on Aug. 15. He was diagnosed with a flexor strain and is expected to be shut down for two weeks before being reevaluated, which could put the rest of his season in doubt. (Last updated: Aug. 19)

LHP (sore foot, No. 4 on Giants top prospects list)
Expected return: Late August
Whisenhunt, who was placed on the seven-day Minor League injured list on July 24 with a sore foot, began a rehab assignment with Single-A San Jose on Aug. 13, striking out six over five scoreless innings in his first two starts.

The 23-year-old has struggled in his first year with Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 5.84 ERA in 19 starts, although he has 102 strikeouts in 77 innings. Whisenhunt made his last start for the River Cats on July 13 and allowed three runs over four frames with seven punchouts. (Last updated: Aug. 19)

60-DAY IL

LHP (left elbow soreness)
Expected return
: Late August or September
Matzek, acquired from the Braves as part of the Jorge Soler trade on July 29, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 13, giving up two earned runs over three innings in his first three appearances. Matzek posted a 9.90 ERA and produced some concerning hard-hit metrics over 11 appearances for the Braves this season, but he recorded a 3.50 ERA over 42 outings in 2022 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in October of that year. RHP (upper right arm aneurysm)
Expected return: Late August or September
Beck began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 8 and surrendered five earned runs over nine innings (5.00 ERA) in his first three starts. He is scheduled to throw four or five innings in his next appearance for the River Cats on Aug. 23. Beck felt his hand go cold after throwing some bullpen sessions early in spring camp, prompting the Giants to send him back to San Francisco to be evaluated by team doctors on Feb. 27.

Beck ended up visiting a vascular specialist at Stanford, who helped determine that an aneurysm -- an abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel -- was the source of the numbness. Beck was transferred to the 60-day injured list on March 3 and underwent surgery at Stanford the next day to address the issue. (Last updated: Aug. 19)

C (left knee sprain)
Expected return: September
Murphy is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after he felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4. He began hitting and running progression on Aug. 17. Manager Bob Melvin said that he hopes for the catcher to return in September.

“It’s taken him some time,” Melvin said. “He doesn’t feel it hitting, he doesn’t feel it throwing, it’s just getting down in the catcher’s position that’s he’s having some trouble with it. He’s pretty frustrated with it, too.”

Murphy was placed on the 10-day injured list May 5, and an MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. Murphy visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on July 25 after experiencing inflammation behind his knee and in his hamstring. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left knee on July 30.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: Aug. 17)

INF (right knee tendinitis)
Expected return: 2025
Flores will be out for the rest of the season, manager Bob Melvin announced on Aug. 6. The first baseman traveled to Los Angeles and underwent a Tenex procedure on his right knee with Dr. Steve Yoon on Aug. 6. He was placed on the injured list on July 25 (retroactive to July 24), after last appearing as a pinch-hitter on July 23 against the Dodgers. He had returned from the same injury on July 9. The Giants transferred him to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 16.

“He was fighting it all year and unfortunately, we're losing him for the rest of the year, which isn't ideal,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said. (Last updated: Aug. 17)

RHP (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Winn is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after undergoing season-ending right elbow surgery in Los Angeles on July 29. Dr. Steven Shin performed an ulnar nerve transposition, which takes pressure off the nerve by moving it from the back of the elbow to the front. The procedure is expected to have a two-month recovery process, which should allow him to be ready to go by Spring Training 2025.

Winn last pitched for the Giants on June 20, when he gave up five runs over 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field. The 26-year-old rookie ended up logging a 7.16 ERA over 12 starts in an injury-marred campaign for San Francisco. (Last updated: Aug. 5)
