Giants avoid arbitration, settling with 3 players on '25 contracts
The Giants announced that they settled with their three remaining arbitration-eligible players on Thursday, agreeing to 2025 contracts with first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. and relievers Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers.
Wade, 31, will earn $5 million this season, while Doval and Rogers will make $4.525 million and $5.25 million, respectively, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Teams had until Thursday at 10 a.m. PT to either reach an agreement or exchange salary figures with their unsigned arbitration-eligible players. The Giants previously agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, who signed for $9.25 million in November.
Wade, who will be entering his final season before free agency, has been viewed as a possible trade candidate this offseason, but he remains in line to serve as San Francisco’s primary first baseman after batting .260 with a .761 OPS and eight home runs over 117 games last year.
The Giants could still use another power bat to slot in at first base or designated hitter, although the free-agent market has thinned significantly now that Paul Goldschmidt, Carlos Santana, Christian Walker and Josh Bell have all come off the board in recent weeks.
Pete Alonso, Anthony Rizzo and Justin Turner remain available, though the Giants could prefer to simply stick with Wade and his right-handed platoon partner, Wilmer Flores, who could hold down first base until No. 1 prospect Bryce Eldridge is ready to break into the Majors.
Doval, 27, logged a career-high 4.88 ERA over 62 relief appearances in 2024 and lost the closing role to Ryan Walker, but the Giants remain high on the hard-throwing right-hander and have expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back from his down season.
Doval will be joined in the bullpen by the 34-year-old Rogers, who is expected to serve as one of the club’s top setup options after recording a 2.82 ERA over a National League-high 77 appearances in 2024.
