SAN FRANCISCO -- Evan Longoria lost a run-scoring double by inches when a drive he hit in Sunday's first inning hooked foul. So the Giants third baseman settled for a consolation prize: a three-run homer.
After hitting the foul drive, the undaunted Longoria connected with the next pitch he saw from Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda and drilled it over the left-field barrier with two teammates aboard and two outs. The Giants proceeded to win, 4-2.
Longoria attributed his ability to overcome the disappointment of the foul ball to a two-run double he hit in Saturday's seventh inning that widened the Giants' lead to 6-3.
"I got a monkey off my back getting that big hit yesterday," said Longoria, who noted that his inconsistency in key situations was "kind of weighing on me a little bit.
"Just being able to get that one yesterday freed up my mind and allowed me to go up there a little more relaxed."

After a slow start, Longoria has moved into a tie for the team lead in homers with Brandon Belt (six) and tops the club with 15 RBIs. In Longoria's last 16 games, he has five doubles, five home runs and 13 RBIs.
"I've got a long way to go but it's definitely gotten a lot better," said Longoria, who was acquired from Tampa Bay for four players during the offseason. "With the start that I got off to, obviously I can only go up from there."
