Dickerson injures knee on foul ball, exits
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants left fielder Alex Dickerson departed Monday’s 4-2 victory over the D-backs in the fourth inning after fouling a ball off his right knee.
Dickerson crumpled to the ground after hitting an 88 mph cutter from D-backs right-hander Zac Gallen off his right leg in his second at-bat of the game. Athletic trainer Dave Groeschner quickly came out to check on Dickerson, who then gingerly walked off the field and exited the game.
X-rays on Dickerson's knee were negative and he was diagnosed with a contusion. He could potentially be available for Tuesday's series opener vs. the Mariners.
Darin Ruf replaced Dickerson and struck out against Gallen before taking over in left field in the fifth. Ruf contributed a key two-run single in the sixth inning to put the Giants ahead.
Dickerson, 30, entered Monday batting .269 with an .886 OPS and seven home runs over 35 games with the Giants this year.
