It took more than a day to get it, but the D-backs will take wins however they come as they held on to beat the Reds, 5-4, Wednesday in a game that started the night before but was halted due to intense rain.

Cincinnati took a 4-3 lead on a two-run homer by Kyle Farmer in the sixth Tuesday night, but Arizona rallied back in the eighth, as Andrew Young’s pinch-hit leadoff homer off right-hander Tejay Antone (which had an exit velocity of 115.9 mph, the hardest-hit home run by a D-backs batter since Statcast tracking began in 2015) tied the game at 4.

Pavin Smith followed with a walk, moving to third base on a double by Kole Calhoun. Then, with one out, Wyatt Mathisen entered as a pinch-hitter and drew a walk to load the bases. That led to Kelly’s bases-loaded free pass, courtesy of Sims, which was the final play before the game was suspended.

When the game resumed Wednesday, Sims worked out of the bases-loaded jam with no further damage.

Kevin Ginkel pitched a scoreless eighth for the D-backs and Stefan Crichton closed things out in the ninth.
