In the second inning of Thursday's Dodgers-Cardinals game, he hit a two-run homer off
… and his second of the season! He hit another dinger earlier this year in a game against the Brewers. In fact, with 10 career home runs, he trails only
Wainwright also pitched six scoreless innings en route to the Cardinals' victory.
"I think we'll probably hear more about the two-run homer than the scoreless innings," said St. Louis manager Mike Matheny, "But he just continues to go on that great roll making quality pitches with everything and I think he's lined up [to be] arguably the best-hitting pitcher in the league. He's taking good at-bats all the way through and he's had a couple good at-bats for us."
"[McCarthy] threw me a couple of nasty cutters away that I took," said Wainwright. "And he threw me that strike breaking ball before ... I think as athletes in here sometimes we just react, and he showed me the curveball before and kind of locked me up a little bit. But he threw it out of the same slot the next time, and I was able to put a good swing on it."
That's pretty cool. Enjoy the moment, Adam:
