Trevino, Arenado named '22 Platinum Glove winners
The winners of the Rawlings Platinum Glove Awards, given to the best defensive player in both the American League and National League, were announced Friday.
Yankees catcher Jose Trevino won the Platinum Glove in the AL, while Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado took home the honor for the sixth consecutive year in the NL.
Trevino’s first Platinum Glove caps a year of firsts for the 29-year-old backstop, as he also won his first Gold Glove and made his first All-Star team. Trevino is also the first Yankees player and the first AL catcher to win this award since it debuted in 2011.
Trevino led all Major League catchers with 21 defensive runs saved in 2022, which was tied for third among all position players.
Arenado, a 10-time Gold Glover, captured his second Platinum Glove as a Cardinal after ranking fourth among all qualified position players in defensive runs saved (19) and tied for seventh in outs above average (15). Arenado previously won four Platinum Gloves as a member of the Rockies.
With Arenado’s win, a St. Louis player has claimed the NL Platinum Glove six times in 12 years. Catcher Yadier Molina was a four-time winner.
