Cardinals announce extension with KMOX
CHICAGO -- KMOX (1120 AM), which has been broadcasting Cardinals games since 1926, will remain the organization's flagship radio station after signing a multiyear extension with the Cardinals. The agreement, which does not make public the length of the new deal, was announced on Friday.
As part of the partnership, KMOX will carry all 162 regular-season games, postseason games, some Spring Training games and other Cardinals-related programming. Announcers Mike Shannon, John Rooney and Mike Claiborne will continue to handle the play-by-play coverage.
"We are pleased to extend our agreement with our partners at KMOX," Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III said in a statement released on Friday. "KMOX is an iconic station in St. Louis, and we are proud to extend our partnership with them, which includes so much shared history and tradition."
Cardinals games have been on the KMOX airwaves since the 1920s with little interruption. Team broadcasts were heard elsewhere from 2006-10 before returning to the CBS Radio station for the '11 season. The current agreement was set to expire at the end of this season. Financial details of the new arrangement were not disclosed.
