Blues goalie honors Cards legends with mask design at NHL's Winter Classic
This year's NHL Winter Classic is at Wrigley Field, and St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington will be repping both the Cubs' historic ballpark and his hometown Cardinals on his mask.
Binnington will be wearing a goalie mask painted with the iconic ivy of the Wrigley Field outfield walls as well as portraits of Cardinals legends Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright.
The Blues face the host Chicago Blackhawks in the outdoor hockey game on New Year's Eve.
"Obviously legendary Cardinal players," Binnington told NHL.com. "Obviously, the baseball stadium and just felt like it was a good time to honor them.
"I've gotten a chance to meet Pujols and Waino. I don't think I've met Molina, but I've chatted with [him] online. Just super cool dudes and down-to-earth guys. I was very happy and honored to put them on there."
Wainwright saw Binnington's mask and gave the goalie a shoutout on social media.
