There won’t be fans in the stands to begin the 2020 MLB season, but that doesn’t mean the game’s biggest stars can’t brace themselves for the “hostile” environment of a road game.

The Brewers added a little spice to the opening game of their intrasquad “Blue-Gold World Series” by booing their superstar slugger Christian Yelich as he came to the plate against starter Brandon Woodruff. The multigame series is being staged to more closely resemble “real” games, as compared to controlled scrimmages, and ramp up the Brewers’ intensity level ahead of the start of the regular season next week. Milwaukee’s opener is Friday, July 24 in Chicago against the rival Cubs -- something a mic’d up Yelich referenced as he calmly smiled off the “boos.”

“Am I at Wrigley or what?” joked the 2018 National League MVP winner, while the Brewers’ staff continued to blast noise through the Miller Park PA system throughout his at-bat. The “friendly confines” of Wrigley Field might be a little friendlier for the Brewers this year without fans in the bleachers. But just in case the Cubs decide to pump in some less-than-friendly crowd noise, Yelich and the Crew will be ready.
