PHOENIX -- Injured Brewers catcher Stephen Vogt will get some time at designated hitter later this week while he continues a comeback from a strained throwing shoulder.
"From our perspective, there's plenty of time to get him at-bats here," manager Craig Counsell said. "This is going to be a throwing thing; that's going to be the challenge."
Monday will mark a week since Vogt cut short a throwing session because of discomfort and underwent an MRI scan.
"Nothing really changed" after a follow-up visit with a doctor on Saturday, according to Counsell. Vogt will continue doing everything in camp -- hitting, catching bullpens, participating in blocking drills -- that does not require throwing.

Once Vogt is pain-free, he will resume throwing.
"Then, the throwing will happen fast. That program can happen fast," Counsell said. "I think he has time still. That's the way I see it right now."
Jett Bandy has been doing most of the catching lately because the Brewers' other Major League catcher, Manny Pina, has a calf issue that Counsell characterized as very minor. That likely explained why Pina only caught Brewers starter Zach Davies' two innings on Saturday against the D-backs before calling it a day.
Another busy day for Braun
Ryan Braun kept adding to his lists of first at first base in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Indians, when he committed his first error there, contributed to his most highlight-worthy defensive play to date and caught a pair of tricky popups. It was Braun's third game at a position he might occasionally man in the regular season.

The error came in the first inning, when Braun fielded a Francisco Lindor bouncer and made an off-target lob to Brewers starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin covering the bag. Chacin took the blame.
"I heard Lindor coming. I tried to catch the ball and hit the bag at the same time," Chacin said. "I should have caught it and then gone for the bag. That's my fault."
An inning later, catcher Jett Bandy and Braun combined for a defensive gem. With Lindor batting and speedster Rajai Davis at first base with two outs, Bandy made a snap throw to first and Braun spun in time to lay a quick tag for the final out of the frame.

"The more innings he gets out there, the more innings he has, the more experience he gets," Counsell said. "That's what we're looking for. You want action and you want things to happen over there."
Counsell cautioned, "We're evaluating 14 innings of baseball. Let's let him play first base. This is his third game, so let him play."
Camp battles
Counsell was looking beyond the box score when he assessed Yovani Gallardo's stint against the Indians. Gallardo's spring ERA rose to 7.20 after he was charged with three earned runs on four hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.
"I like what Yo is doing. He's making some changes and he's being stubborn to make those changes, which is hard," Counsell said. "When you're asking somebody to make these changes, I almost foresaw some walks happening, because we're asking him to pitch differently. But I'm happy to see him continue on this path.

"I think the swings are giving him good feedback. I don't think they're getting good swings off him. He had trouble with the strike zone today, not hitters' swings."

Monday is "choose your own friends day," as Counsell likes to call open dates on the schedule. It's not a complete shutdown day, however, as six pitchers from big league camp will log innings against Minor League hitters in a camp game at Maryvale Baseball Park. Brent Suter, Freddy Peralta and Marcos Diplan are scheduled for multi-inning stints, and Radhames Liz, Erik Davis and Tyler Webb for an inning apiece.
