ATLANTA -- Baserunners have been testing Christian Yelich’s arm in left field more and more in recent weeks.

The Braves tried again in the second inning Monday afternoon at Truist Park during Game 3 of the National League Division Series, but this time, it cost them the game’s first run. Despite that, Atlanta went on to win, 3-0, giving the NL East champs a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five format.

Atlanta had runners on first and third with one out when Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud hit a fly ball to Yelich in left field. Austin Riley tagged from third, while Adam Duvall surprised everybody and tagged from first.

Yelich had no chance to get Riley. He was 313 feet from home plate, but he was only 212 feet from second, according to Statcast. Even though Duvall runs well -- and Yelich’s throw tracked at just 82.9 mph -- the throw to second baseman Kolten Wong arrived in time for an inning-ending double play.

It was a significant mistake by Duvall because Wong tagged Duvall a split second before Riley reached home plate, so the run did not count.

"That wasn't a good play by Adam," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "I talked to him about it; he agrees. It was probably just getting caught up in the moment. I mean, that's one of the guys, he doesn't make mistakes. And he did right there. And he'd tell you if he came in here right now and sat down, he'd say, 'I screwed up.'"
