A's reinstate LHP Alexander from IL; option RHP Ferguson to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Tyler Ferguson to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Alexander began the season on the injured list with a left rib bone contusion and was assigned to Single-A Stockton on a rehab assignment on May 3. He pitched in two games with the Ports and four with Triple-A Las Vegas and compiled a 9.64 ERA and .708 opponents OPS in six outings overall. The 34-year-old left-hander struck out eight and walked just one in 4.2 innings but allowed six runs and six hits. Alexander was signed by the A’s as a free agent on Feb. 14 after going 7-3 with a save, a 4.66 ERA and .693 opponents OPS in 55 games, including eight starts, with San Francisco last year.

Ferguson was selected from Las Vegas on May 7 and had a 5.68 ERA and .726 opponents OPS in six relief appearances in his Major League debut. He held the opposition to a .190 batting average but walked six batters in 6.1 innings. Ferguson is 1-1 with four saves and a 2.40 ERA in 14 appearances with Las Vegas.
