A’s recall RHP Bido and C/1B Soderstrom; select LHP Lucas
INF Hernaiz Placed on 10-day Injured List; LHP Harris Optioned
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled catcher/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas, selected left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas from Las Vegas and added right-handed pitcher Osvaldo Bido from Las Vegas as the 27th man for the doubleheader against Texas, the club announced today. The A’s also placed infielder Darell Hernaiz on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle injury and optioned left-handed pitcher Hogan Harris to Las Vegas. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated right-handed pitcher Alex Speas for assignment.
Bido is 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA and .675 opponents OPS in six games, including five starts, with Las Vegas and is scheduled to start the second game of the doubleheader today. He has 39 strikeouts in 31.1 innings (11.20 per nine innings) and has walked 13 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.00. The 28-year old right-hander is tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in wins, tied for third in strikeouts, ranks fourth in ERA and ninth in innings pitched. Bido went 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA over his first two starts but is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA in four games, including three starts, since then. He went 2-5 with a 5.86 ERA in 16 games, including nine starts, over three stints with Pittsburgh last year in his Major League debut and was signed by the A’s as a free agent to a one-year contract on Nov. 21, 2023.
Soderstrom is batting .245 with seven home runs, 19 RBI and an .882 OPS in 27 games with Las Vegas. He is tied for sixth in the Pacific Coast League in home runs. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter has made 21 starts at catcher, five at first base and one at designated hitter. Soderstrom made his Major League debut with the A’s last year at the age of 21 and batted .160 with three home runs and seven RBI in 45 games over two stints with Oakland.
Lucas is 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA and .699 opponents OPS in 11 games, including one start, with Las Vegas. He has held the opposition to a .211 batting average but has walked eight in 15.2 innings for a .313 on-base percentage. The 27-year-old left-hander made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and compiled an 8.10 ERA and .948 opponents OPS in six relief appearances with the A’s.
Hernaiz was batting .182 with six RBI in 29 games over two stints with the A’s before injuring his ankle in the second inning yesterday. Harris was recalled from Las Vegas on Monday and pitched 5.1 innings of relief yesterday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk. Speas was acquired from the White Sox on April 6 for cash considerations and compiled an 11.32 ERA in nine relief appearances with Las Vegas after logging a 15.43 ERA in two games with Triple-A Charlotte.
