YANKEES SIGN RHP CODY POTEET
The New York Yankees today announced that they have signed RHP Cody Poteet to a one-year Major League contract.
Poteet, 29, made just one minor league start in 2023, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings (1BB, 1K) with Triple-A Omaha on September 23. The right-handed pitcher spent most of the season recovering from “Tommy John” surgery, which he underwent on August 17, 2022.
Over parts of two Major League seasons with the Miami Marlins (2021-22), Poteet went 2-4 with a 4.45 ERA (58.2IP, 48H, 29R/ER, 27BB, 53K, 11HR) in 19 games (nine starts). Poteet was signed by the Kansas City Royals on December 16, 2022, to a minor league contract after spending seven seasons in the Miami Marlins organization (2015-19, ’21-22). Additionally, he’s made 104 appearances (100 starts) over parts of eight minor league seasons, going 19-39 with a 3.80 ERA (521.2IP, 503H, 256R/220ER, 163BB, 413K, 42HR).
The San Diego, Calif., native was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the fourth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California, Los Angeles. He was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 27th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign.
