Yankees left-handed reliever underwent Tommy John surgery on Thursday, in addition to a bone chip removal from his pitching elbow. The procedures will put him out at least until the end of the 2022 season.

"They did a reconstruction and a repair," manager Aaron Boone said on Thursday. "He's still out in L.A., he'll actually see Dr. [Neal] ElAttrache again in another week or so ... to kind of get more of an updated timeline."

Britton has endured a nightmarish season that began with dropping 18 pounds during an offseason bout with COVID-19, left elbow surgery to remove a bone spur that cut short his spring and then a hamstring strain.

This news comes on the heels of right-hander Jameson Taillon going on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle tendon injury, retroactive to Sept. 7.
