NEW YORK -- The Twins and Yankees knew there was a high likelihood that their four-game series would be cut short due to the prospect of Hurricane Henri, which was expected to bear down on the New York area during Sunday afternoon’s finale at Yankee Stadium.

That inclination was confirmed after Saturday’s game, which the Yanks claimed with a 7-1 victory, when the team announced that Sunday's contest had been postponed due to the forecast of severe inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 13, at 2:05 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium.

Fans holding paid tickets for Sunday's postponed game may use them for the rescheduled game on Sept. 13 or exchange them for tickets to a similar regular-season game at Yankee Stadium (subject to availability) as described in the Yanks' rain check policy, which may be found at yankees.com/raincheck.

Several options for how the two teams might have been able to complete Sunday’s game emerged in the days leading up to the announcement, including the possibility of a doubleheader Saturday or even a night game Sunday if the storm managed to pass by that point.

Though a decision had not yet been made when Twins manager Rocco Baldelli spoke to reporters after Saturday’s contest, he acknowledged that he prepared his team for what the most likely scenario could be.

“We did make an announcement to our guys that if they needed anything that they normally keep at the field or in their bag or in their locker, just to make sure that they take it with them,” he said. “Because there is at least a scenario where we don’t show up to the field tomorrow, and the decision is made before we would normally go to the ballpark.”

The Twins have an off-day on Monday before they are scheduled to open a three-game series against the Red Sox in Boston on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Yankees are supposed to travel to Atlanta on Sunday night before starting a two-game set against the Braves on Monday.

“As of now, we think there's a chance we'll be able to fly out at our regular time later in the evening tomorrow night, but life will tell you,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “We'll be staying in the athletic position and do what we've got to do."
