Voit, Escobar earn Players of the Week honors
Yankees first baseman Luke Voit and D-backs third baseman Eduardo Escobar were named the Players of the Week presented by W.B. Mason on Monday.
Voit earned the American League Player of the Week Award after hitting .433/.528/.867 with four homers and 10 RBIs in seven games, a span in which the Yankees went 6-1.
The slugger is a major reason why New York has gone 17-11 overall this season despite a rash of injuries to key players. This is Voit’s second AL Player of the Week Award, as he also won it in the final week of the 2018 regular season.
Escobar took home National League Player of the Week honors after recording a .480 average with three home runs, a triple, three doubles, eight RBIs and a 1.573 OPS in six games. The D-backs went 4-2 in that stretch. Escobar capped the week with a pair of homers Sunday, though Arizona fell to the Cubs in 15 innings.
The 30-year-old infielder is also a two-time Player of the Week Award winner, having previously won last June with the Twins.
The reigning Players of the Week will share the field Tuesday, when the D-backs begin a two-game series against the Yankees at Chase Field.
