Where'd it go? Gallo's triple evades Arroyo
BOSTON -- Joey Gallo wanted the inside-the-park home run. He settled for a two-run triple during the Yankees' 12-5 win against the Red Sox on Friday night during their rivalry series at Fenway Park.
Gallo lifted a third-inning fly ball to right field on Friday that sailed over the head of right fielder Christian Arroyo, who stretched his arms outward in panic, unable to find the ball in flight.
Aaron Hicks and Jose Trevino scored as Gallo raced around the bases, tagged out at home plate as Arroyo retrieved the ball on the warning track, then fired to second baseman Trevor Story, who relayed to catcher Christian Vázquez.
Gallo grinned broadly after being tagged out, credited with his first triple as a Yankee. Gallo last notched a three-base hit on July 18, 2021, as a member of the Rangers at Toronto; his drive helped open a 7-2 Yankees lead at the time.
The fly to right had a hit probability of 1%.
