ARLINGTON -- Gleyber Torres' bat continued to sizzle on Tuesday. The Yankees rookie slugged the first pitch he saw from Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels into the left-field bleachers for a home run in the third inning, circling the bases for his fourth homer in as many games, though the Yankees would go on to lose, 6-4.
Torres' seventh big league homer trimmed Texas' lead to four runs at the time, one night after the 21-year-old joined Mickey Mantle as the youngest Yankees to enjoy a multihomer game. Torres is also the youngest player in franchise history to hit seven homers in his first 26 games.
The shot came off Torres' bat at 104.9 mph and traveled an estimated 399 feet, according to Statcast™.
Torres' seven homers rank third among Major League rookies; only Christan Villanueva of the Padres (12) and the Yankees' Christopher Austin (eight) have hit more. Torres' 19 RBIs rank fifth among big league rookies.
