The Kansas City Royals have partnered with JE Dunn and KultureCity to make all events hosted at Kauffman Stadium to be sensory inclusive. This will help promote an accommodating and positive experience for all guests and fans with sensory needs. Event staff at both facilities have been trained and certified to recognize guests with sensory needs and handle a sensory overload situation. Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals, becomes one of many MLB ballparks to be certified by KultureCity.
Sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads will be available to all guests who may feel overwhelmed by the environment. Fans will also have access to sensory areas for those who may need a quieter and more secure place.
Sensory sensitivities or challenges with sensory regulation are often experienced by individuals with autism, dementia, PTSD, and other similar conditions. One of the major barriers for these individuals is sensitivity to overstimulation and noise. With its new certification, Kauffman Stadium and its employees are now better prepared to assist guests with sensory sensitivities in having the most comfortable and accommodating experience possible when attending any event at the ballpark or arena.
There are two sensory rooms located on both the 1st (section 136) base and 3rd (section 119) base dugout concourses and are easily accessible through the wing elevators on both sides of the stadium. There are also eight quiet areas located around the stadium, and Sensory bags are available for check-out in both the plaza and view level guest services.
