LOS ANGELES -- Rockies shortstop Trevor Story departed Monday night's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers in the fourth inning with right elbow soreness.
Story appeared to be in pain during a swing and miss on a pitch from Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. He grimaced immediately, motioning for trainers. Manager Bud Black and assistant trainer Scott Gehret came out to check, and Story left the game.
Story had felt a twinge in his elbow after making a throw to first base on a diving stop in the first inning. He felt discomfort on his swing, and the team decided to make a precautionary move and remove him from the game.
"I felt something on the throw when I dove for the ball," Story said. "My elbow was a little tight, but I just tried to play through it. When I swung through that pitch, it kind of extended my arm and I felt it a little more."

Story is expected to undergo more tests Tuesday. 
"Anytime you have to take a player out of the game, and you have to wait a little bit on some scans that might take place tomorrow -- there's some apprehension," Black said. "I'm thinking positive, and the trainers feel good about some of the [early] tests they've done."u5:p
Losing Story for any extended amount of time would be a devastating blow for Colorado, which fell a half-game back of Los Angeles after Monday's loss. Story has slugged himself him into potential National League MVP Award consideration and was slugging .289/.344/.551 heading into Monday. He sits one behind Nolan Arenado for most home runs on the team with 33 and his .981 fielding percentage is the third-highest in the National League.
"It's tough, unfortunate, frustrating for me," Story added. "You never want to come out of the game, especially a game like this. It's such a huge series."
