DETROIT -- The series opener between the Rockies and Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park was postponed about an hour prior to first pitch due to inclement weather.

It will be made up on Saturday as part of a split doubleheader, with games at 11:10 a.m. and 4:40 p.m. MT. Antonio Senzatela, who was slated to start on Friday, will now pitch Game 1 on Saturday, with Austin Gomber taking his regularly scheduled turn for Game 2.

Though the rain was light downtown at the ballpark, impending history on the Tigers’ side might have had a bit to do with the postponement. Miguel Cabrera, Detroit’s designated hitter, sits one shy of the 3,000-hit milestone, and were he to have achieved the feat in the early innings on Friday and then the game had ended before becoming an official game, it could have made for a sticky one for the history books.

Saturday’s forecast was much more favorable and will still allow for Senzatela (a native of Valencia, Venezuela) to face off against Cabrera (who hails from neighboring Maracay) as the former attempts to keep the latter from becoming just the seventh player in AL/NL history to record 3,000 hits and 500 homers in his career.
