DENVER -- Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado said he had been dealing with right shoulder soreness for "the last couple weeks" before leaving in the fifth inning of Friday's 5-4 victory over the Dodgers. But Arenado said he hopes to play Saturday.
"I've had soreness before throughout every year and played through every one of them," Arenado said. "But this one, it started bothering me."
The injury flared after Arenado made a double-play relay throw to first baseman Ian Desmond in the third inning. Arenado was in a shifted position and covered second base on Yasmani Grandal's grounder to first.
"I felt fine throwing it; I threw it good," Arenado said. "But after, I had trouble throwing. I couldn't really let it eat. Usually when I throw I can let it fly."

Arenado, who entered the day second in the National League in home runs with 29 and tied for third in RBIs with 82, was 0-for-2 with a strikeout against Dodgers righty Kenta Maeda. He said the injury doesn't affect his swing, since the problem is with his back shoulder in his right-handed batting stance.
But Ryan McMahon, who replaced Arenado at third, delivered the go-ahead runs on a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh off Dodgers lefty Zachary Rosscup.

"They said, 'Hey, you may need to go in for Nolan,' so I ran upstairs, threw three balls and they yelled at me and said, 'Hey, you're going in,'" McMahon said.
Arenado said he didn't like forcing McMahon into immediate duty, at least at first.
"I don't like doing that to players if they're not ready," Arenado said. "I always kinda feel bad.
"I don't feel bad anymore."
