DENVER -- Recovering from a left elbow flexor strain, Rockies left-handed relief pitcher Lucas Gilbreath will not return this season, but he will receive a PRP injection in his left elbow flexor tendon, manager Bud Black said on Monday.

MRI results did not reveal damage extensive enough for surgery, but there is still not enough time for Gilbreath to recover and return to the mound before the season ends. He will finish the year 2-0 with a 4.19 ERA in 47 appearances as the Rockies’ primary left-handed reliever.

From May 14 to July 22, Gilbreath gave up an earned run in just two of his 28 outings, and had an 0.64 ERA with 34 strikeouts against 13 walks.

Gilbreath also appeared in 47 games last year as a rookie and went 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA.

Austin Gomber, who began the year as a starter, continues as the team’s only left-handed reliever.
