Rockies place Díaz on restricted list
The Rockies placed catcher Elias Díaz on the restricted list for violating team rules and protocols before Monday’s game against the Astros in Houston.
Rockies manager Bud Black would not elaborate on the violation after his team’s 2-1 loss to the Astros. Tony Wolters and Drew Butera will continue to handle duties behind the plate.
Díaz has three hits in 12 at-bats in his three starts this season. Last season with the Pirates, Díaz slashed .241/.296/.307 with two home runs and 28 RBIs in 101 games before his season was cut short by a viral infection. He was non-tendered after the season and signed a Minor League deal with the Rockies in January.
The club recalled right-handed pitcher Ashton Goudeau from their alternate training site to replace Díaz on the roster.
