DENVER -- The Rockies have moved bullpen coach Darryl Scott to the pitching coach job, and are in discussions for a new position for Steve Foster, the team’s pitching coach the last seven seasons.

The moves were first reported by The Athletic on Monday night. The club has not commented on the reports.

The changes in the pitching department began last week, when Mark Wiley, the club’s director of pitching operations, announced his retirement from a job the Rockies created after the 2012 season.

The promotion of Scott, 53, and the potential continuation with Foster, 55, who sources have said has expressed interest in stepping away from the Major League club to spend time with his family, is a signal that the Rockies want continuity in their pitching program. It’s possible that Foster could move into a role similar to the one Wiley is stepping down from at year’s end.

The most stable part of the club is its starting rotation. Scott coached pitchers in the system from 2011-17 and served as one of the organization’s Minor League pitching coordinators from 2017-19. The starters who have fostered a solid rotation in recent seasons all worked under Scott in the Rockies’ Minor League system.
