Another honor for Bauer: All-MLB 1st Team
CINCINNATI – The accolades from Trevor Bauer’s 2020 season for the Reds continued on Wednesday, when the right-handed pitcher was named a first-team All-MLB starting pitcher during a show on MLB Network.
This year marked the second annual selection of an All-MLB Team, which was created to recognize and commemorate top performances by players during the regular season.
The selection process started in early November, with 50% of the vote coming from fans and 50% coming from a panel of experts.
Also named besides Bauer to the All-MLB First Team of starting pitchers were Cleveland’s Shane Bieber, the Cubs’ Yu Darvish, Jacob deGrom of the Mets and Max Fried of the Braves.
Bauer, 29, was the first member of the Reds to ever win a National League Cy Young Award last month. His peers in the Major Leagues also voted him the winner of the 2020 Players Choice Award for outstanding pitcher in the NL. The Cincinnati chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America also voted Bauer as the Reds’ MVP and pitcher of the year.
During the shortened 2020 season, Bauer led the NL in ERA (1.73), WHIP (0.79), opponents’ batting average (.159), opponents’ BABIP (.215), adjusted ERA (276), fewest hits per nine innings (5.06), shutouts (2) and complete games (2). He ranked second in strikeouts (100) and strikeouts per nine innings (12.33).
In 11 starts and 73 innings, Bauer had a 5-4 record. Over his final five starts of the season as the Reds made a surge down the stretch, he was 2-2 with a 1.29 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 35 innings.
Bauer became a free agent after the season.
