Delmonico inks Minors deal with Reds
CINCINNATI -- The Reds signed outfielder/first baseman Nicky Delmonico to a Minor League contract on Wednesday and invited him to Spring Training as a non-roster player.
Delmonico, 28, spent parts of the last four seasons in the big leagues with the White Sox. He batted .150 in six games for Chicago in 2020 and is a .224/.312/.384 career hitter with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs over 158 games.
A former sixth-round pick of the Orioles in the 2011 Draft, Delmonico was taken out of Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tenn., the same high school that produced Reds center fielder Nick Senzel.
Delmonico is a left-handed hitter and will be seeking a bench spot amid a crowded outfield picture that already includes Senzel, Shogo Akiyama, Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker, Mark Payton and Aristides Aquino on the 40-man roster.
