Reds prospect facing charges
CINCINNATI -- Reds Minor League outfielder Mac Wainwright was placed on leave from the organization’s Spring Training camp on Tuesday as he faces criminal indictments.
Wainwright, 18, was indicted in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, on two counts each of rape and gross sexual imposition.
Cincinnati selected Wainwright with its fourth-round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft out of St. Edward High School near Cleveland. He had a commitment to Ohio State, but he signed with the Reds instead.
“Mac Wainwright, the Reds’ fourth-round pick in the June 2020 First-Year Player Draft, is on administrative leave and is not participating in Minor League Spring Training camp at the team’s player development complex in Goodyear,” the Reds said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. “We have no further comment.”
