Watch Winker defy physics with catch at wall
A high pop slicing toward the left-field seats in foul ground had everyone at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night expecting a routine foul and another chance for the Phillies' Cesar Hernandez against Reds starter Tyler Mahle. That chance never came because of Jesse Winker.
With two outs and nobody on in the third inning, Hernandez was stunned to see he'd made the final out of the frame as Winker raced to the wall in foul ground and slid feet first to make the grab at the last possible moment.
In making the acrobatic snag, Winker managed to time his slide perfectly, avoiding a hard collision with the wall while putting his outstretched glove exactly where it needed to be.
The catch protected a one-run lead for Cincinnati, before the Phillies rallied back for a 4-2 victory in the series opener.
