VICE PRESIDENT, ACCOUNTING
Patrick Smith joined the Rays as the club’s controller on Feb 2, 1998 and was promoted to vice president of accounting in January 2023. In this role, he is tasked with overseeing the team’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations, treasury services, tax compliance, MLB reporting and several annual audits. He came to the Rays after nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their controller in charge of all team accounting and NFL reporting requirements. Smith is a CPA and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Baldwin-Wallace University, where he worked in the sports information department and for the university radio station as a disc jockey and music director. He has volunteered for several years for Meals on Wheels. Originally from Cleveland, he and his wife, Betsy, have one son, Matthew.
